Robert Griffin III excited the assembled that attended his Pro Day in Waco.
I’ve confirmed that 25 NFL teams attended Baylor’s Pro Day on Wednesday, March 21st. I was able to track down five of the seven teams that were not represented in Waco on Wednesday - the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks.
I was unable to track down the other two teams that were not represented, but I'm told 25 teams attended.
The main attraction on Wednesday was quarterback Robert Griffin III. The 6-foot-2, 223-pound Griffin, who dazzled NFL personnel at the Scouting Combine with his explosive workout, is destined to be selected by the Washington Redskins with the No. 2 overall pick, after the Redskins traded three first round draft picks, plus a second-round selection to the St. Louis Rams to secure the services of the man known as RGIII.
At the Combine, Griffin ran a 4.41 in the 40 and generated a 39-inch vertical and 10-foot broad jump. On Wednesday, Griffin showed off his passing prowess, and impressed the assembled with his arm strength and ability to make all of the throws. Overall, I heard it was a great showing, although I’m told there were some errant passes and mechanical issues. Regardless, he had a solid day and made the Redskins brass smile throughout.
The other highly touted Baylor offensive weapon and projected first-round pick, wide receiver Kendall Wright, also shined. Wright had a disappointing Combine workout and was officially timed at a 4.61 in the 40, although his unofficial time of a 4.45 seemed to be on the money.
On Wednesday, I’m told Wright timed in the 4.43 – 4.49 region with most results coming back at a 4.45. Scouts are not worried about Wright’s timed speed, because on tape he plays much faster, and the time that was recorded at the Combine was never worrisome to NFL evaluators.
Currently, Wright is rated 18th overall on my Big Board and has been in my Top 20 for the last two months. He’s a lock to be a Top 20 pick in next month’s draft.
Other Baylor prospects that will likely hear their name called on draft day are: center Philip Blake (3rd – 4th Round), running back Terrance Ganaway (5th – 6th Round) and defensive tackle Nicolas Jean-Baptiste (5th – 6th Round).
